CHIROPRACTIC FAQ

What techniques do you offer?
Our Chiropractic physicians are trained in a variety of chiropractic techniques, including Diversified Technique (manually adjust the spine or extremity), Activator Methods (instrument adjusting), Gonstead (manual method), Thompson (table-drop method), SOT, among others. If there is a specific chiropractic technique you are looking for call our office, with multiple chiropractors having various training, we most likely will be able to accommodate your request.

Do you treat on the first visit?
Yes, we do! We typically treat and perform an adjustment on the first visit unless it is clinically contraindicated (should not be performed).

How is a chiropractic adjustment performed?
According to the American Chiropractic Association, chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed during the doctor of chiropractic’s intensive years of chiropractic education. The chiropractic physician typically uses his or her hands or an instrument to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, in order to restore or enhance joint function. This often helps resolve joint inflammation and reduces the patient’s pain. Chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. The chiropractor adapts the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.

Are adjustments painful?
Adjustments are not typically painful. Our providers are trained to deliver adjustments that are safe and effective to help you get out of pain.

Why is there a popping sound when a joint is adjusted?
Adjustment (or manipulation) of a joint may result in the release of a gas bubble between the joints, which makes a popping sound. The same thing occurs when you “crack” your knuckles. The noise is caused by the change of pressure within the joint, which results in gas bubbles being released. There is usually minimal, if any, discomfort involved (American Chiropractic Association)

I am nervous about getting adjusted, what can I do?
We understand that there may be a bit of nerves involved with getting treatment by a chiropractor. Rest assured, our providers will walk you through the process and explain what will be performed ahead of time. We also provide other treatment options for those not wanting a manual adjustment.

Do I have to get “popped?”
No, you do not. We have a variety of other techniques that do not make the “popping” noise experienced after a manual adjustment. See the “What Chiropractic Techniques Do You Offer” FAQ for other techniques offered.

Will I be sore after treatment?
Not typically, however, it is possible to experience some soreness after the evaluation and/or first treatment.

Do you take x-rays?
We have the ability to take radiographs when it is clinically indicated, however, we do not require x-rays prior to any treatment.
